Assistance for victims of violence, assault, and trafficking. Established by Chief Barry Diebold in 2017, 1 Safe Place is a family justice center in Brownsville that houses multiple agencies dedicated to serving adult victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, elder abuse, and human trafficking. 1 Safe Place maintains a full-time staff that includes the Director, Site Navigator Bob Haley, Special Victims Investigator Sgt. Aaron Smith, and two WRAP advocates, Angela Hunt and Candice Sanders, supported by a network of partner organizations. Multiple partner agencies also provide assistance on an as-needed basis to ensure comprehensive support. The services 1 Safe Place offers patrons include therapeutic support, individualized advocacy, court accompaniment, connection to safe housing, Order of Protection assistance, comprehensive safety planning, and ongoing support groups, all designed to help survivors rebuild safety and stability.
